Albemarle develops flame retardant to replace PentaBDE

The Albemarle Corporation, Richmond, Virginia, USA, has introduced Saytex RZ 243, which replaces pentaBDE in the production of flame-retardant polyurethane foam. The new product shows good thermal stability and anti-scorch properties for high- and low-density foams used in furniture, bedding, automobiles and packaging.

The company itself does not make or market pentaBDE.

Albemarle’s product line includes bromine, phosphorus, and mineral based flame retardants for plastics and rubber used in electronic and electrical equipment, wire and cable, furniture and automotive foams, insulation, adhesives, coatings and other materials.
