KraussMaffei: RimStar Smart completely reengineered

The new RimStar Smart mixing and metering machine with the smallest footprint in its segment made its debut at the HEY! TALK event online in front of international polyurethane professionals. The KraussMaffei solution for professional PU processing offers a metering machine footprint of just 4.8 m², a new operating concept with a mobile control panel, intuitive user interface and additional touch panel on the mixing head, and options such as a freely positionable mixhead boom.

According to the manufacturer, flexibility and efficiency are critical nowadays for the success of a company in the PU processing industry. The demand from traditional customer industries, such as the automotive industry, is in decline. Increasing customisation in the consumers' world calls for the production of smaller quantities "on demand". At the same time, cost pressure is increasing. Therefore, a mixing and metering machine must be, above all, cost-effective and equipped for the real-life requirements, with a stronger focus on what is necessary and a clear delineation of what is optional, said the company.

After a complete makeover, the RimStar Smart series was recently presented to the polyurethane processors. And since trade shows have been getting cancelled in times of COVID-19 and online events offer many advantages to participants, "HEY! TALK RimStar Smart and more" also served as the inauguration for this new KraussMaffei channel for addressing customers. As the entry-level model of the RimStar family of proven mixing and metering machines, the new RimStar Smart is, first and foremost, equipped for real-life requirements. It even offers options for configuration based on user needs. This means that it is the right machine for series production, for small-batch production with little automation or even for manual foaming processes. Good standardisation creates the conditions for a delivery period as short as eight weeks, which helps customers to seize their opportunities in the market, said KraussMaffei.

At a footprint of only 4.8m², the RimStar Smart fits in any gap. The mobile HMI with castors, equipped with a 12'' glass touch display from the latest generation, provides for flexible operation. Convenience and process control are both given a boost thanks to the state-of-the-art and intuitive user interface and the new mixing head panel with an additional 4'' colour touchscreen display and shot time countdown. The optional outrigger can swivel and features an adjustable length. It can also be positioned either in front of the machine or to the side. This creates more flexibility in the design of the layout. A selection of proven, premium quality mixing heads, various sizes of daily tanks and pumps and a well-conceived list of equipment options open the door for application in different production environments.

The RimStar Smart is fit for digital production environments. The design of the user interface is intuitive. The menu screens display the most important parameters at a glance, and the configurable quick access toolbar makes everyday work more effective. If required, a "smart" interface connects plant technology and automation. The optional ClosedLoop control system of the output rate ensures high component quality. An additional RFID interface for mould recognition makes working very efficient. Thanks to SmartAssist, KraussMaffei is able to provide quick and expert support if service becomes necessary – online or on site.
