From the international conference “Polyurethanes 2013” in Moscow
von Prof. Dr. Victor A. Goncharenko
The international conference “Polyurethanes” took place in Moscow on 11 February 2013. The organiser was Inventra, a subsidiary company of Creon Energy Company. The conference was dedicated to the present situation of the Russian polyurethane market and its future prospects. As wealth rises in a society, demand for polyurethane products also rises, but there is no domestic isocyanate production in Russia. Has national Russian isocyanate production been limited by the dominating market positions of the five large raw material suppliers – Bayer MaterialScience, BASF, Dow Izolan, Huntsman, and Yantai Wanhua? What is there to prevent the Russian petrochemical giants from starting isocyanate production? This and other questions were the subject of lively discussions by around 50 conference visitors on the occasion of the “Polyurethanes 2013” conference.
