QATAR: QP, Qapco $7 billion project on track for 2018 completion
The project will have a world-class cracker that will produce different types of polyethylene and significantly boost Qatar’s polyethylene production capacity.
“We expect the project to be up and running by 2018,” al-Sada told local press reporters in Ras Laffan on 20 Nov. 2012.
The joint venture project will help Qatar meeting the growing global demand for various types of petrochemical products, he said and added it will be project managed and later operated by Qapco.
Al-Sada also said Qatar was “relentlessly pursuing” the development of its petrochemical industry.
“It will continue; we will maintain our momentum,” the minister said.
He said so many projects have been lined up for implementation by QP. “Some of these are in the engineering phase. They will mark a new phase in our downstream projects in terms of size, advanced technology, sophisticated project management and operation,” al-Sada said.
