UZBEKISTAN: Surgil gas chemical project targeted for completion by 4th Q 2015

The Surgil natural gas chemicals complex in Uzbekistan is due to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015, said reports quoting Huh Soo-young, president of Lotte Chemical.

In 2012, Uz-Kor Gas Chemical LLC announced plans to develop Uzbekistan’s Surgil gas field and build a complex in the Karakalpakstan region that would include an ethylene cracker to supply feedstock for downstream polymer units. Based on the available gas, the complex is  expected to produce 390,000 t/y of high-density polyethylene and 80,000 t/y of polypropylene.

Uz-Kor is a joint venture of state-controlled Uzbekneftegaz, Lotte’s Honam Petrochemical Corp. subsidiary, Korea Gas Corp and STX Energy.
