PU chemicals and products in the Americas

According to the new report on the markets for Polyurethane Chemicals and Products in the Americas 2014 – First Edition from IAL Consultants, total production of PU products in the Americas is reported to have been 3.98 million t in 2013 compared with 3.84 million t in 2012.

By 2018 this figure is forecast to be 4.78 million t, equivalent to an average growth of 3.7 % per year over the next five years.

The PU industry remains larger by far in North America, which is dominated by the USA, but expected growth rates are strongest in the developing South American market, at 4.7 % per year over the forecast period.

Flexible foam and rigid foam dominate the production of PU products in the Americas, with shares of 36 % and 30 % respectively. The CASE and binders segments are comparatively much smaller.

Total production of PU by major product type in the Americas in 2013 was as follows: flexible foam 36 %, rigid foam 30 %, coatings 11 %, adhesives and sealants 6 %, elastomers 9 %, and binders 8 %.
