JSR and BST to construct new S-SBR plant in Thailand

JSR Corporation and Bangkok Synthetics Co., Ltd. (BST) have signed a letter of intent for establishing a joint venture (JSR 51 %, BST 49 %) and constructing a manufacturing plant for S-SBR in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong province, Thailand. The capacity of the new plant will be 50,000 – 100,000 t/y, and it is scheduled for start-up in June 2013. JSR will provide a technology license to the joint venture, while BST will supply the new plant with a crucial raw material.

Currently, JSR is also increasing the S-SBR capacity of its Yokkaichi plant in Japan by 25,000 t to reach 60,000 t in total in November 2011. Furthermore, JSR has a manufacturing capacity of 30,000 t/y of S-SBR based on a capacity right agreement with Styron Europe GmbH. By adding the new manufacturing capability in Thailand, JSR intends to become a worldwide leading supplier of S-SBR. JSR says it plans to further optimise its global manufacturing and supply capabilities and expand its global business actively.

In addition, BST is currently building a 110,000 t/y nitrile latex plant at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, which it expected to start-up in the third quarter of 2012.
