MALAYSIA: Abd Hapiz appointed CEO of Petronas Chemicals

Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PCG) has appointed Dr Abd Hapiz Abdullah executive director/president and chief executive officer effective 1 May.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on 20 Apr. 2011, PCG said Dr Abd Hapiz would succeed Datuk Tengku Mahamad Tengku Mahamut who had resigned and would be appointed as an advisor to the president/CEO. Prior to his appointment, Dr Abd Hapiz was the managing director of DuPont Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

PCG said Dr Abd Hapiz was a seasoned professional with a PhD in Organic Chemistry and had strong international credentials, background in the chemical industry with multinational firms and experience in managing large organisations.

He has more than 25 years of technical, marketing and business development experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.

“With his chemical industry knowledge and broad experience, the board of directors of PCG is confident that Dr Abd Hapiz will be able to provide leadership and continue to drive the group’s business strategies and accelerate the group’s growth in petrochemicals business,” PCG said. Dr Abd Hapiz is currently the chairman of Chemical Council of Malaysia and executive council member of International Chamber of Commerce Malaysia.
