How TPEs can make dogs happy

The start-up company Healthy Toys offers toys for pets. Only recently they introduced Healthy Fly frisbees entirely made of Thermolast K compounds from Kraiburg TPE. These materials are conform to the regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) as well as to the requirements of the European Directive 2002/71/EC governing materials that come into direct contact with foodstuff.

In contrast to conventional soft frisbees made of natural rubber, the odour-free Healthy Fly toy does not contain any cross-linking agents, latex, phthalate, PVC, or heavy metals. As the TPE is easy to dye, the discs are available in a range of colour combinations.

"I am a dog owner myself and have for a long time been concerned about the substances found in pet toys. Even well-known manufacturers are little aware of the quality of their products as regards hazardous ingredients. This was confirmed in 2008 in a report by the German Stiftung Öko-Test, a consumer magazine focusing on environmental issues. On foot of this report, we decided to extend our know-how in the field of plastics with a view to develop safer products", explains Markus Seidl, managing director of Healthy Toys and Mues Products & Moulds, the parent company of healthy Toys. “From the very beginning, we teamed up with Kraiburg TPE. This competent partner was able to provide us with a material produced in Germany that meets all key requirements for our dog frisbee.”

The frisbees float on water and are available in two sizes. Dehner Garten-Center is currently selling them in its pet stores.

Healthy Toys is a subsidiary of Mues Products & Moulds GmbH with headquarters in Rosenheim. The Bavarian company has for many years been a leading producer of various plastic products for the medical, automotive and consumer goods sectors.
