Trexel and Lubrizol introduce new foamed TPU

BounCell-X is the brand name of a new TPU foam technology recently introduced by Trexel and Lubrizol. It combines Lubrizol’s Estane TPU chemistry with Trexel’s MuCell physical foam injection moulding technology.

BounCell-X benefits include characteristics such as light weight, very good long-term cushioning and thin solid skin for durable TPU performance. Parts are produced in a high-efficient injection moulding process with over-moulding feasibility. No chemical blowing agents are used in the foaming process.

Trexel’s MuCell technology involves the introduction of precisely metered quantities of atmospheric gases (nitrogen or carbon dioxide) in the plasticizing unit of an injection moulding machine to create a microcellular material structure in the end product. The creation of these microcellular structures brings a wide array of benefits including an increased part quality along with reduced production costs.

Among MuCell partners are injection moulding machinery suppliers worldwide, including Arburg, Engel, JSW, and KraussMaffei. In November 2014 Trexel announced that it has recently signed a partnership agreement with Milacron.
