KOREA (SOUTH): Toray to build PPS resin plant in Saemangeum

Toray Advanced Materials Korea said that it would establish a new plant to produce polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) resin at its Saemangeum Industrial Complex in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.

The plant, to be operational by April 2016 with a capacity of 8,600 tons a year, will boost Toray's production capacity of PPS resin to 27,600 tons a year together with the Tokai plant in Japan.

PPS resins are super engineering plastics, which are superior in heat resistance, chemical resistance, mechanical strength and flame retardation, and are used in automotive electric components, electric and electrical devices, office automation equipment and housing-related parts, with its applications expanding every year.

The high-performance carbon fibers produced by Toray have been used in the Sorento, Kia Motors crossover SUV, boasting its superior quality including lighter weight and higher fuel efficiency.
