The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) will host its 63rd Polyurethanes Technical Conference from 4 – 6 October 2021 in Denver, CO, USA. The organiser has issued a Call for Technical Papers and Posters to be presented at the annual event. Technical paper abstracts are now being accepted through 3 February 2021. Poster abstracts are being accepted through 6 August 2021.

BASF announced that the implementation of the methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) capacity increase programme for production facilities at its Verbund site in Geismar, LA, USA, is progressing on schedule. Over time, the company targets to double the capacity from 300,000 t/y to approximately 600,000 t/y. BASF said with this stepwise capacity addition, it will support the ongoing growth of its North American MDI customers.

For the second year running, Evonik Comfort & Insulation's foam chemist Jane Kniss has received the prestigious Dr. Herman Stone Technical Excellence Award during the Polyurethane Foam Association’s (PFA) annual Fall Meeting. On 5 January 2021, Lanxess announced that it is continuing to drive forward digitalisation in its production plants. Over the next three years, the company will introduce mobile operations and maintenance. In a first step, around 400,000 paper-based operations and maintenance checklists used every year will be replaced by digital equivalents, then filled out on tablets. In this initial phase, 65 Lanxess plants in Germany, Belgium and the USA will benefit from this modernised process, said the company.

On 5 January 2021, Perstorp Group announced that it has been granted a liquidity enhancing Revolving Credit Facility (RCF) of SEK 600 million (~EUR 59.5 million). According to Perstorp, the group has grown steadily over the last few years and has ambitious plans for the future. This RCF will support the company in its development, will protect it from the current market environment and will provide liquidity to capture growth opportunities once conditions improve, said Perstorp.

Christian Kleinjung has been appointed as new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Hennecke Group. Previously, Kleinjung worked as CEO at an international machine tool manufacturer. The business graduate began his professional career as a consultant at a renowned auditing firm and then took on various national and international top management roles in medium-sized industrial companies. He was responsible – also in his role as CFO – for the finance and supply chain management departments, and gained significant international experience, particularly in Asia and the Middle East.

Solvay announced that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with Composites One LLC for the sale of its Process Materials (PM) business. According to the company, the transaction remains subject to prior information and consultation procedures with the employees and approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. Closing of the transaction is expected in Q1 2021.

Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner has been appointed as a member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, effective from 1 February 2021. Maas-Brunner has been with the company since 1997 and has headed BASF’s Nutrition & Health division since 2017. In her new role, she will also take over the position as Chief Technology Officer from Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF. She will assume responsibility for the three research divisions Advanced Materials & Systems Research, Bioscience Research, Process Research & Chemical Engineering as well as BASF New Business at that time. Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE, said: “With Melanie Maas-Brunner, we have appointed a very experienced chemist and strong leader to the Board. During her career at BASF to date, she has successfully set up business areas for the future – with global responsibility as well as in the Asia region.”
