Songwon announced on 7 December that prices for all its products will be raised by 2-5 %, depending on business line and region. The company said that these price increases are a consequence of the sudden escalation of freight rates that took place on most routes. The new prices are effective as of 1 January 2021, or as contracts allow.

Perstorp announced that it has developed a production concept to produce methanol from a large variety of recovered end-of-life streams and hydrogen from electrolysis. Project AIR will build a first-of-a-kind, large scale, commercial Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) unit to produce sustainable methanol. The methanol plant will be unique in the sense that it is a combined CCU and gasification process where CO2, residue streams, renewable hydrogen and biomethane will be converted to methanol. Perstorp plans to do this in cooperation with Fortum, Uniper and Nature Energy.

Dr. Christian Przybyla will become Chairman of the Management Board of Eckart GmbH, based in Hartenstein near Nuremberg, Germany, on 1 March 2021, and will thus also take over the global management of Eckart, one of the four divisions of the speciality chemicals group Altana. He will succeed Dr. Wolfgang Schütt, who is leaving the company at his own request on 28 February 2021. In his new capacity, Przybyla, the current Chief Technology Officer of the Elantas division, will also become a member of Altana AG’s Executive Management Team.

The Rigifoam group of companies announced the acquisition of National Urethanes Industries (NUI), a South African polyurethane systems house specialising in the manufacture of CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) products. Established in 1982, NUI has built its reputation around specific customer solutions with its specialised formulations and product range. Besides its headquarters in Johannesburg, the company has branches in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
