Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner (Source: BASF)

Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner has been appointed as a member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, effective from 1 February 2021. Maas-Brunner has been with the company since 1997 and has headed BASF’s Nutrition & Health division since 2017. In her new role, she will also take over the position as Chief Technology Officer from Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF. She will assume responsibility for the three research divisions Advanced Materials & Systems Research, Bioscience Research, Process Research & Chemical Engineering as well as BASF New Business at that time. Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE, said: “With Melanie Maas-Brunner, we have appointed a very experienced chemist and strong leader to the Board. During her career at BASF to date, she has successfully set up business areas for the future – with global responsibility as well as in the Asia region.”

Nicolas Beyl has been appointed as Managing Director of the Single Group and Single Holding GmbH effective from 1 December 2020. He succeeds Frank Spork, who has led the company on an interim basis since March 2020. Spork will focus on his role as Director Product Management and will continue to be responsible for the company in this area.

Dr. Christian Przybyla will become Chairman of the Management Board of Eckart GmbH, based in Hartenstein near Nuremberg, Germany, on 1 March 2021, and will thus also take over the global management of Eckart, one of the four divisions of the speciality chemicals group Altana. He will succeed Dr. Wolfgang Schütt, who is leaving the company at his own request on 28 February 2021. In his new capacity, Przybyla, the current Chief Technology Officer of the Elantas division, will also become a member of Altana AG’s Executive Management Team.

Following the retirement of Prof. Dr. Georg Steinbichler, Engel has reorganised its development department and is now focusing even more strongly on process technology. Products and solutions for increasing process capability, such as the smart assistance systems of the iQ product family, but also innovative services, have been bundled in the Process Technologies department under the responsibility of Johannes Kilian.

On September 30, 2020, Dr. Heinz Bijoy Prosad Gupta (*1932 in Calcutta, India) passed away in Ratingen, Germany, at the impressive age of 88. He founded this publishing house in 1993. For many years he was editor-in-chief of GAK Gummi Fasern Kunststoffe and until 2019 publisher of various national and international specialist journals for the rubber, polyurethane and TPE industries.
