Baalbaki moves PU headquarters to UAE and expands facilities
In a further step to fortify its position as the leading polyurethane systems and raw material supplier in the Middle East, Baalbaki announced that it has started construction of its new 40kt/y aromatic and aliphatic polyester polyols and prepolymer production plants, which should be operational by the end of 2012. The new facility will supply the developing markets in the Middle East, Pakistan and India with systems, polyols and laminating adhesive for flexible food packaging.
This latest expansion will expand the total capacity of the group to a total of 55 kt/y polyester polyols and 70 kt/y of isocyanate prepolymers. Baalbaki has production sites in Syria, Egypt, Turkey and the UAE.
The company says it is the pioneer in introducing aromatic and aliphatic polyester polyol technology including "green technology" to produce polyester polyols derived from scrap PET, into the GCC (Gulf Coordination Council).
"Baalbaki remains the only manufacturer of this product in the Arab World and the largest manufacturer in the Middle East and Africa regions for this product range," commented Dr. Ihsan Baalbaki, Chairman of Baalbaki Group.
Due to the growing importance of the developing PU markets in the Middle East the headquarters of our polyurethane business unit will be relocated to the United Arab Emirates as of January 2012," said Karim Baalbaki, Managing Director of Baalbaki Group. "Baalbaki will continue to serve the Levant markets from its existing production facility in Syria; Africa from the production facility in Egypt; and Turkey from its facility in Pendik, Istanbul,” he explained.
