BASF inaugurates new system house in Tianjin

BASF has opened a new polyurethane system house in Tianjin, China, to further expand its global service and production network. This is BASF’s third system house in China alongside Shanghai and Nansha, and the eleventh in the Asia-Pacific area.

F. l. t. r.: Dr. Ramkumar Dhruva, Shi Yang (Deputy Director, TEDA Administrative Commission), and Dr. Zheng Daqing (Member of BASF Greater China Country Board) jointly inaugurate the new site.

The new facility covers an area of 3.4 ha in the Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area and represents an investment of CNY 85 million. BASF is also planning a polyurethane system house in Chongqing to be located next to its new MDI plant, due for completion in 2014.

“Tianjin is strategically located in the heart of the Northern China region where the PU market has been experiencing above average growth. We see significantly strong demand in emerging markets for sustainable solutions in the automotive and construction industries,” said Dr. Ramkumar Dhruva, Senior Vice President of Polyurethanes, BASF Asia Pacific. “BASF supports industry growth by providing innovative polyurethane solutions which reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Some examples include improved insulation for buildings and lightweight materials for the automotive industry.”

According to data from BASF, the polyurethane market in China will maintain a high annual growth rate of 8.7 % until 2025 while the growth rate in Northern China is likely to be above average level.
