Stepan acquires North American polyester resins business from Bayer

Stepan Company has purchased the North American polyester resins business from Bayer MaterialScience, including the production facility located in Columbus, GA, USA. The business has sales of approximately USD 64 million.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The facility houses a R&D laboratory for customer technical support and new product development. The 21,000 t/y plant is said to be expandable. Bayer is a leading producer of powder polyester resins for metal coatings applications in NAFTA and liquid polyester resins for CASE applications globally. Stepan, headquartered in Northfield, IL, USA, is a producer of polyester polyols used in rigid insulation foam. According to the company, this acquisition will expand and diversify its polyol product offering and accelerate its growth in CASE and PU systems house applications.
