New curative for improved cure rate control
Albemarle Corporation has developed a new product to help improve the processability of polyurea and polyurethane spray elastomer coating systems. The company has recently commercialised Ethacure 90, a new polymer chain extender for the B side of both aliphatic and aromatic polyurea and polyurethane spray elastomer coatings typically used in truck bedliners, concrete and steel coatings, sealants and caulks and RIM applications.
Ethacure 90 is an aliphatic diamine chain extender that creates lower reactivity therefore offering improved cure rate control. The new product is highly compatible with other amines and with slow gel times. This allows for very good processing including even and consistent flow through spray equipment, good adhesion and a lack of “orange peel” effect on coated surfaces, to produce a smooth, high gloss coating, says Albemarle. The product is especially suitable for use in severe service applications such as containment barriers, floors, parking garages and bridges, offering properties of improved flexibility and elongation to high performance coating systems.
