ISOPA Passive House Opening

On a beautiful sunny December day, ISOPA Sec gen, Joerg Palmersheim , Kristine Dewaele and builder Christophe Debrabander of construction company Bostoen cut the ribbon to declare the house open and ready for tenants.

Energy supply and balance are increasingly problematic for the national grid not only in Belgium but across Europe and many other countries of the world. Passive Houses not only consume a lot less energy than traditional houses but they can be used to generate power and supply it to the local electrical grid. A combined policy of saving energy and generating renewable energy is required and can be met through the use of passive buildings.

A traditional new build house constructed in Flanders must only use 70 Kw/h/m², however, the Passive House uses only 15 Kw/h/m², a reduction of almost 80 %.

Bostoen has already built 400 of these houses in the Flanders region of Belgium. Construction costs are in the region of EUR 250-350,000 per house, depending upon the exact specification.
