Pirelli expands in North America

Pirelli Tire North America (PTNA) is adding a compound mixing facility to its MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) manufacturing facility in Rome, GA, USA.

According to the company, the USD 12 million investment will strengthen its position in the North American market and help PTNA sustain its market gains and the 30 % sales increase realised over the past three years.

Furthermore, Pirelli will construct its first production plant in Mexico. The new factory will be located at the Puerto Interior industrial park in Silao and produce tyres for cars and light trucks. The company says it will invest USD 210 million in the plant, generating 700 direct and 300 indirect jobs. The facility will cover an area of 120,000 m2 and will be operational in 2012. The initial capacity will be 3.5 million units in 2014, increasing to 5 million units by 2015.
