Silicone elastomers for large moulded composite parts

At Feiplar Composites & Feipur, Wacker Silicones will present silicone rubber compounds that simplify the production of vacu­um bags for small as well as large-scale composite parts.

The method is based on Elastosil C 150 and Elastosil C 1200 grades. These two-part platinum-curing silicone rubbers feature key properties for the production of high quality vacuum bags. For instance, Elastosil C 150 has a low viscosity and cures at room temperature within a few minutes without shrinking which enables short production cycles.

Elastosil C 1200, developed for large moulded parts, has a longer pot life of around 20 min. As a result, it is possible to produce customised vacuum bags for large-scale industry applications, such as boat building, aircraft construction, and wind power plants. The efficiency of the process allows significant cost cutting, say Wacker.
