QATAR: Univation details technology award for Al-Sejeel complex PE facilities

Univation Technologies said it has licensed its Unipol polyethylene (PE) process to Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Petrochemical Co. (Qapco) for three reactor lines representing a total capacity of 1,590,000 t/y of PE at the Al Sejeel petrochemical complex being built in Ras Laffan, Qatar.

One 550,000-t/y line will produce linear low-density PE (LLDPE) and two 520,000-t/y lines will produce high-density PE (HDPE), Univation explained. Earlier reports said the complex would have 430,000 t/y of LLDPE capacity and 850,000 t/y of HDPE capacity.

The production lines, scheduled to come on stream in 2018, will use Univation’s XCAT metallocene and Prodigy bimodal catalysts.

“We are honored to be selected by QP – Qapco as the LLDPE and HDPE process technology licensor, combining the most advanced and diversified PE product slate with well-proven, large-line capability and over 40 years of safe, reliable and efficient operating experience,” states Cindy Shulman, president of Univation.
