TPE for protective caps

New GPN 201 standard series cylindrical protective sleeves are made of a soft flexible TPE compound

Pöppelmann uses a thermoplastic elastomer for the manufacture of a news series of protective caps. These caps, recently introduced at the Hannover Messe fair in April, protect hose and pipe ends, shafts and threaded bolts from dirt and damage when stored or transported as well as during post-treatment and assembly.

Thanks to the excellent flexibility of the elastomer the Kapsto GPN 201 caps can guarantee this functionality, even on rough sections. Attaching or firmly fitting rigid protective caps is sometimes difficult with rough sections, distortions, or tolerances on end pieces.

The soft TPE levels out even larger tolerances and provides the necessary flexibility for a firm fit. Another advantage of the TPE in this application is the resistance of the material to hot water and weak acids as well as bases in contrast to similarly flexible silicone.

The cylindrical protective caps have an easy-to-grip knurled edge and are, according to the company, resistant to temperatures from –50 to 150 °C. The sleeves are also free from diluents. The standard series is available in 56 sizes to fit exterior diameters ranging from 4.9 to 51 mm. Pöppelmann said that other versions or custom-made designs to suit any customer requirements can quickly be developed.
