SOUTH KOREA: LyondellBasell grants Lupotech license for Samsung Total LDPE/EVA plant

LyondellBasell’s Lupotech T process technology has been selected by Samsung Total Petrochemicals for a new low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer plant in Daesan, South Korea.

Samsung Total, a venture of Samsung General Chemicals and Total Petrochemical, is building the 200,000-t/y LDPE and EVA facility as part of a project that also includes an aromatics complex designed to produce 1-million t/y of paraxylene and 500,000 t/y of benzene.

LyondellBasell, noting that Samsung Total also operates a 250,000-t/y Spherizone polypropylene plant at the Daesan petrochemical complex, said the LDPE and EVA plant is scheduled to start operations in 2013.
