JBC to expand halobutyl rubber capacity in Kashima

Japan Butyl Co. Ltd. (JBC), a 50/50 joint venture between JSR Corporation and ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha (EMYK), will expand the capacity of its halobutyl rubber manufacturing plant at Kashima, Japan, by 10,000 t/y.

Upon completion in 2012, the company’s halogenated butyl rubber production capacity will increase to 80,000 t/y. This is the second capacity expansion in five years at the Kashima halobutyl rubber plant. The JBC regular butyl rubber manufacturing plant at Kawasaki also completed a 18,000 t/y expansion in 2010 to bring its total capacity to 98,000 t/y.
