JAPAN: Mitsui Chem starts Osaka IPA plant; HDPE, PP production ends at Chiba
Due to predicted shortages in propylene, Mitsui decided to switch its production of IPA to acetone feedstock. It suspended its 28,000-t/y IPA facility in Osaka and built the new acetone-based IPA plant at a cost of about ¥3-billion.
Also during 2013, the Prime Polymer joint venture of Mitsui and Idemitsu ended the production of 130,000 t/y of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and 90,000 t/y of polypropylene (PP) in Chiba, Japan.
