ACC welcomes draft house legislation to update TSCA
“We applaud Chairman Shimkus’ commitment to creating a more effective chemical regulatory system and welcome the draft Chemicals in Commerce Act of 2014. The release of this discussion draft is another positive development that adds to the growing effort in Congress – including the bipartisan Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA) pending in the Senate – to reform our nation’s primary chemical management law. The balanced approach taken in the draft Chemicals in Commerce Act will provide Americans with more confidence in the safety of chemicals, while at the same time encouraging innovation, economic growth and job creation by US manufacturers.”
“Through multiple hearings over the last year, Chairman Shimkus and the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy have demonstrated their strong willingness to listen to the views of a broad cross-section of stakeholders and to learn more about what’s needed to successfully update TSCA.
“Updating TSCA is critical for our industry; one that creates the building blocks for 96 % of all manufactured goods, playing a fundamental role in every facet of national commerce and the US economy. We are committed to working with members of the committee to move toward a formal introduction of a balanced, comprehensive, bipartisan bill that can win approval in the House. This legislation, along with the compromise CSIA crafted by the late Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Senator David Vitter (R-LA) and supported by 25 bipartisan cosponsors, will enhance the lives of American families and the success of America’s economy.”
