BRAZIL: Synthos plans Nd-PBR plant in Brazil; Braskem agrees to supply feedstock

Synthos, of Poland, plans to invest about USD 170-million in a neodymium polybutadiene rubber (Nd-PBR) facility at the Triunfo petrochemical complex in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

The plant, which will reach a capacity of 80,000 t/y, will receive butadiene feedstock from Brazil\'s Braskem through a 15-year conditional agreement, several media sources reported.

Michelin will provide the license and know-how for the production of the synthetic rubber.

The Nd-PBR project \"will be carried out provided that the 2013 contracts on raw materials will come into effect,\" Synthos noted.

Expected to start up between 2016 and 2017, the new facility \"will result in a huge production growth of elastomers in Brazil and will replace a significant part of the current import,\" the company explained.
