IRAN: NPC constructing propylene facility to feed downstream PC production

Iran’s National Petrochemical Co. (NPC) is building a 450,000-t/y propylene plant that is intended to provide additional raw materials for the petrochemical industry, according to local press reports.

The Salman-e-Farsi complex is being established in Iran’s Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone and is scheduled to begin production by March 2017.

Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co. will supply about 560,000 t/y of propane feedstock to the complex.

Abbas Sheri Moqaddam, Deputy Petroleum Minister for Petrochemical Affairs, noted that Iran has the capacity to produce 60-million t/y of petrochemicals, but an average of only 68 % of this capacity is utilized for a variety of reasons, including the lack of feedstock.
