Purcom Química launches first polyurethane technology center

Purcom invested USD 1.5 million in the center of excellence, which received support from the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP) and aims to put into practice the ideas of the formulators of polyurethane, its customers and market in general. Thus, this raw material, well-known for its versatility, can conquer other niches and meet the new demands of modern life.

Various machines are installed at the technology center, including a two-component, high pressure, variable-ratio, spray applicator with mechanical cleaning head and a low pressure injection machine with dynamic mixer and suitable for solvent cleaning. To undertake customer tests the technology center also has flexible foam equipment for foaming with batter, an expansion box and rolling tape cutting equipment. The facilities also include injection systems for froth foams, a unit for abrasive blasting, coating and heated cabins as well as a team of trained scientists.

Each machine has been set up in an isolated area, which means that only Purcom and responsible people for the original idea have access to the development project. Purcom wants to offer, starting in 2011, marketing training programmes for technicians and operators involved in the application of PU systems, directly with customers or through agreements with Universities and Technical Schools.

Headquartered in Barueri SP, Purcom earned USD 82 million in 2009 and expects to grow 30 % this year to reach the USD 100 million mark.
