CHINA: Styron adding second latex facility at Zhangjiagang complex
Styron has announced plans to expand its styrene butadiene (SB) latex facility in Zhangjiagang, China, with construction of a second latex unit at the site.
Dow Chemical, which last year completed the sale of its Styron business, started up a 22,000-t/y SB latex plant at Zhangjiagang in 2002 and in 2005 completed an expansion that it said more than doubled the site’s SB latex capacity.
“Zhangjiagang is the ideal location for Styron to expand our latex production and offerings,” noted Styron President and Chief Executive Chris Pappas. The plant “will continue to benefit from its strategic location, local resources, employees and community support,” he added.
The new unit, for which capacity was not disclosed, is due to begin operations during the fourth quarter of 2014.
