EGYPT: TCI Sanmar building ethylene plant in 2nd phase of VCM/PVC complex

Source: Weekly "PetroChemical News", Durham, NC, USA; 11 Apr 2011

TCI Sanmar Chemicals has started construction of an ethylene plant as part of the second phase of its vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) complex in Port Said, Egypt.

Parent company Chemplast Sanmar said the second phase includes an ethylene plant and doubling PVC capacity to 400,000 t/y. Completion is expected in 24 months.

The first phase, completed last year, included a 400,000-t/y VCM plant and 200,000-t/y PVC facility.

Described as the “largest plant in the Middle East for ethylene production from agricultural materials,” Sanmar noted it will produce ethylene “to meet the entire captive requirement and enhance the annual PVC production.”
