Trelleborg makes two acquisitions

Trelleborg has acquired an operation in Xingtai (Hebei), in eastern China, to expand in the Chinese market for speciality tyres, primarily agricultural tyres.

Trelleborg has acquired an existing facility from a Chinese company, part of the US group Main Industrial Tire LLC, and will also take over about 180 employees. The acquisition and investments total about SEK 100 million over a three-year period.

In addition, Trelleborg will acquire operations within Silcotech Group, with total sales of slightly more than SEK 200 million and some 150 employees. The operation focuses on precision seals and components in liquid silicone, primarily for the pharmaceutical industry and medical technology sector, but also used in certain critical electronic applications.

The purchase price amounts to about SEK 300 million and the acquisition is expected to be finalised during the second quarter 2011. Silcotech has a manufacturing operation in Stein am Rhein in Switzerland and joint venture operations in Pernik, Bulgaria and Huizhou, in southern China. The acquisition encompasses the operation in Switzerland and 50 % of the JV in Bulgaria, with an option to acquire the remaining share, and an option to acquire the majority share of the JV in China.
