APS Elastomers offers TPUs with improved extrudability

APS Elastomers has developed a hard thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that is easier to extrude. According to the company, the new series of TPUs offers the extrudability of softer grades providing tubing manufacturers the advantages of hard TPUs without their production drawbacks.

“The specially formulated TPU enables a thinner wall for tubing, which requires less material; allowing significant cost savings for tubing manufacturers,” said Stephane Morin, owner of APS Elastomers.

The ability to use harder grades of TPUs allows increased productivity and cost efficiency; affording processors and OEMs additional design options. Additionally, the TPUs offer higher burst pressures while retaining the advantages of softer TPUs. Ranging in Shore hardness from 50 D to 74 D, the TPU improves extrusion output without loss of melt viscosity or crystallisation in the die or on the screw.
