VIETNAM: Foster Wheeler awarded services contract for Nghi Son refinery & petrochemical complex

Foster Wheeler has received a contract from Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. (NSRP) to provide project management and consultancy (PMC) services for a $9-billion refinery and petrochemical complex in Vietnam’s Nghi Son Economic Zone.

The NSRP project includes a refinery that will process 200,000 b/d of crude oil imported from Kuwait, a 700,000-t/y paraxylene plant, a 370,000-t/y polypropylene plant and a 240,000-t/y benzene plant, all scheduled to begin commercial operations in mid-2017.

“Foster Wheeler successfully completed the front-end engineering design for the NSRP complex, and subsequently provided project management services during the tendering phase for the main engineering, procurement and construction contract,” said Umberto della Sala, president and chief operating officer of Foster Wheeler.

Under the current contract, for which a value was not disclosed, Foster Wheeler will manage and administer, in an integrated team with the client, the engineering, procurement and construction contractor consortium through the completion of performance testing.

Earlier this year, NSRP issued a letter of award for the complex to an engineering, procurement and construction consortium of JGC Corp., Chiyoda Corp., Technip Group, SK Group and GS Group.

NSRP is a joint venture owned 35.1% each by Idemitsu Kosan and Kuwait Petroleum International, 25.1% by PetroVietnam and 4.7% by Mitsui Chemicals.
