KAZAKHSTAN: Petrofac, Linde & GS receive contract for integrated petrochemical complex

A consortium of Petrofac, Linde and GS Engineering & Construction has been awarded a contract by KLPE LLP to provide services for KLPE’s Integrated Petrochemicals Complex and Infrastructure (IPCI) project in the Tengiz and Karabatan regions of Kazakhstan.

In the USD 77-million first phase of the contract, Petrofac will lead the consortium to undertake engineering work on an Open Book Estimate.

Subject to satisfactory conclusion and successful conversion of the contract, the project is expected to move into a second phase, valued at more than USD 3.5-billion, for a polyethylene (PE) plant comprised of two 400,000-t/y lines.

The eventual scope of the IPCI project will include the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a gas plant, ethane cracker, gas pipelines, PE plants and associated utilities and offsites in the Tengiz and Karabatan areas, Petrofac explained.
