UKRAINE: Lukoil resumes petrochemical production in Kalush stopped in 2012 by market conditions

Lukoil announced that it has resumed petrochemical production at Kalush, in Ukraine, which was suspended in late 2012 because of "unfavorable conditions" in the petrochemical market.

Last September, Lukoil halted production of core products—ethylene, polyethylene (PE), vinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), caustic soda and chlorine.

In April 2013, Lukoil and Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers signed a Memorandum of Coordination of Actions "to bring the plant to a cost-effective production level," the company noted.

Lukoil currently has the capacity to produce 300,000 t/y of PVC, 250,000 t/y of ethylene, 200,000 t/y of caustic soda, about 180,000 t/y of chlorine and 100,000 t/y of PE.
