GNFC TDI Dahej plant gets closure order

The TDI plant of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Company Limited (GNFC) located in Rahiad village near Dahej, India, has been issued a closure order.

The order was issued by the industrial safety department of Gujarat government after an incident of leakage of phosgene gas from the plant that left over 15 employees ill. The sick employees are under treatment at Narmada Nagar Hospital at GNFC Township. Deputy director, industrial safety department, Bharuch, V. J. Patel told local media: “There was negligence on the part of GNFC. A transfer valve failed to develop the required pressure at the plant. We have issued a closure order to GNFC's Toluene Di-Isocyanate Plant in Dahej. No factory inspectorate licence was taken to run the plant.”
