US announces strong housing data for 2013
The bureau also reported that a total of 923,400 housing units were started during 2013, an increase of 18.3 % on the 780,600 starts made in 2012. In total 762,200 housing units were completed during 2013, an increase of 17.4 % over 2012.
Existing home sales, which came in at a 4.9 million seasonally adjusted pace in November, are expected to be about 10 % higher in 2013 than 2012 and stay about the same at 5.1 million in 2014, the National Association of Realtors forecasts. That is roughly back to 2007 levels, but below the inflated levels preceding the housing crash.
