New drinking water application for Thermolast K

Kraiburg TPE has announced a new application for its drinking water TPE compounds. In combination with a metal filter, they ensure flawless filtration of water in pipes. The filter for the water supply to the thermostat is insert-moulded with a TPE sealing.

In various applications in industrial and household use, faucets or shower heads are protected from contaminants, which can be formed when particles are detached in the pipe and clog the aerator, by means of a special filter. Supplier of these filters is the Italian company Emme Gi Plast  s.n.c. based in Miasino, on Lake Orta in the Piedmont region. The part has an O-ring made of a TPE of the Thermolast DW series from Kraiburg TPE. It is used directly on the screw joint between the water pipe and the water connection.

As Emme Gi Plast supplies the filter to fittings manufacturers throughout Europe it is crucial that the material meets national drinking water standards. The DW series compounds comply with main drinking water certifications, such as the DVGW W270 in natural and color, and the German KTW certification and the British WRAS for cold and hot water. These thermoplastic elastomers also meet the standards of the French ACS certification. The formulation of the DW series inhibits the growth of mold and bacteria without the addition of irritating or even poisonous chemicals. DW series compounds are possible from 55 Shore A.

TPEs in plumbing installations are especially resilient and thus repel dirt and lime. Items such as pipes or shower door seals can also be manufactured from drinking water-compliant TPE compounds. Applications range from design elements in plumbing, water treatment and desalination plants to coffee machines, refrigerators, etc.
