Brabender provides IKV with laboratory mixer

Brabender GmbH & Co. KG, Duisburg, has provided the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) at RWTH Aachen University with a laboratory mixer for the processing of rubber and thermoplastics. IKV said, that this machine will be a very useful addition to the equipment available to its Extrusion and Further Processing department.

The laboratory mixer is equipped with a pneumatic plunger and comprises a torque rheometer (Brabender Plasti-Corder® Lab-Station) and a Type 350 E mixer. With its electrical temperature control system, it allows the compounding of both thermoplastic and elastomeric materials. This laboratory mixer, which has a volume of 370 cm³, is also noted for its ease of handling and cleaning. The size of this mixer is an important intermediate stage between a measuring mixer and an internal rubber mixer and is ideal for the development of compounding recipes and process know-how. It is also suitable for the development of innovative polymer materials.

With the present liquid-heated measuring mixer Type W 50 from Brabender and the new laboratory mixer Type 350 E, IKV now has a wide variety of options for performing a broad spectrum of material and process development, not only for public research, but also for joint industry research projects. Prof. Christian Hopmann, head of IKV, thanked Frank Fuchs, Senior Director Marketing and Sales at Brabender GmbH & Co. KG, for the new machine in the IKV's rubber laboratory.

By loaning this machine to IKV, Brabender, a long-time member of the IKV Association of Sponsors, wishes to underline how important it regards intensive and fruitful cooperation between research and industry. Brabender has in the past showed great dedication in supporting various research projects at IKV, and regularly provides equipment for work on these projects.
