CHINA: Cabot teams with Risun Chemicals in Chinese carbon black venture
Cabot Corp. and Risun Coal Chemicals Group subsidiary Risun Chemicals Co. have formed a new Chinese joint venture for the production of carbon black.
Cabot, holding a 60% interest in the new venture, said the two companies will invest about $100-million to build a “state-of-the-art” production facility at Xingtai in China’s Hebei Province.
The plant, due to be commissioned in early 2013, will be designed to produce approximately 130,000 t/y of carbon black, with the potential for future expansion to 300,000 t/y. Cabot noted that the plant will employ “advanced emissions control technology and energy recapture.”
Dave Miller, Cabot core segment executive vice president and general manager, said the facility will allow for the production of products not readily available in China.
