Zachert appointed as new CEO of Lanxess

Lanxess AG has announced that the Supervisory Board of the company has resolved to end by mutual agreement the appointment of Axel C. Heitmann as Member and Chairman of the Board of Management, effective 28 February 2014. Matthias Zachert has been appointed as his successor. Zachert, former CFO of Lanxess, and currently CFO of Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany, will take over as Chairman of the Board of Management on 1 April 2014.

The company said in the announcement that it is facing significant challenges, for example in terms of market capacities and business portfolio. Therefore, the Supervisory Board believes it is the right time to hand over responsibility to a new leadership in order to overcome these challenges.
